Are those wrinkles making you look and feel older than you are? The good news is that you don’t have to live with them! BOTOX® Cosmetic is a safe, effective, and very popular way to reduce wrinkles. If you are considering getting BOTOX Cosmetic treatment, you may have some questions about the procedure and you may be wondering what you can expect. Read on!
How Does BOTOX Cosmetic Work?
BOTOX Cosmetic is made from a neurotoxin, but it is very safe to use and is FDA approved. It can be used on both men and women. It works by blocking the signals between the nerves and the muscles, which reduces wrinkles because the muscles can’t contract. It is injected into the muscles using a very fine needle, in a treatment that only takes around 20 minutes. Patients report these injections are not painful but may cause a bit of discomfort, which can be treated with an over-the-counter pain medication. After the procedure, you’ll be able to get right back into your daily activities. BOTOX Cosmetic can be combined with other procedures, such as dermal fillers, to help you fulfill your cosmetic goals.
What Happens During a BOTOX Cosmetic Procedure?
You will be awake during the procedure, and no sedation or local anesthetic is needed, although you can have a topical anesthetic if you would like. Before any topical anesthetic is applied, the area to be treated will be cleaned with an antiseptic solution. Your skin care specialist will then inject tiny amounts of BOTOX Cosmetic into strategic areas – in a typical treatment, for example, there may be four to five injections in the forehead and two to three around each eye. To prevent or reduce bleeding and bruising, pressure may be applied to the injection sites. You’ll have to lie upright for about 5 minutes after the treatment.
