What is BBL™ Forever Clear for Acne?

We are excited to offer the BBL™ Forever Clear treatment for teens and adults who are tired of struggling with persistent acne. This innovative treatment uses three different types of broadband light, the most powerful type of intense pulsed light, to target acne-causing bacteria and overactive sebaceous glands that contribute to breakouts. In addition to reducing or eliminating the factors that are behind those frustrating breakouts, broadband light also stimulates the regeneration of healthy new skin cells, promoting prolonged results.

What are the Benefits of BBL™ Forever Clear?

Acne is a frustrating problem that can be difficult to bring under control using the most common methods. The BBL Forever Clear treatment is advantageous because it uses precise, proven energies to target the cause of your breakouts; bacteria. Other solutions clean the skin and wash or wipe away excess oil, but broadband light gets deep into the pores, where acne first begins. In addition to reducing active acne, BBL Forever Clear can reduce pore size and make it more difficult for acne-causing bacteria to thrive in hidden places. There is very little downtime associated with this treatment. You may be able to go right back to your normal activities immediately after your appointment! If you do develop side effects, they should be limited to minor inflammation and redness that last no more than a couple of days. You can disguise these subtle side effects with makeup if you'd like.

How Many BBL™ Forever Clear Treatments Will I Need?

The BBL Forever Clear treatment involves three distinct steps. After cleansing the skin of surface debris, your provider will start targeting the bacteria that causes acne by administering blue BBL light. The light permeates the pores and destroys the unhealthy organisms that create inflammation. The device is then switched to yellow BBL light, which calms redness and inflammation. Finally, the skin is treated with quick pulses of infrared light to promote a strong healing process. The treatment can take about an hour for larger areas, and as little as 30 minutes for smaller areas.

You can expect to begin seeing an improvement in your skin after just one BBL Forever Clear treatment. However, depending on the severity and persistence of your acne, your provider may recommend that you schedule four or more sessions, one a week, to achieve the best possible results.

Are BBL™ Forever Clear Results Permanent?

Broadband light, delivered through the BBL Forever Clear applicator, works on the bacteria, oil, pores, and other factors that contribute to acne. These factors don't go away completely. They're brought under control for some time. Because your skin will always have some amount of bacteria, oil, and debris, you might experience inflammation or breakouts again in the future. Fortunately, it's easy to schedule touch-up BBL treatments as needed to keep your skin healthy and glowing!

What Type of Acne Does it Treat?

Multiple studies have shown that broadband light is a safe and effective treatment for nearly all cases of acne. This treatment can be performed on minor blemishes and enlarged pores or active cystic or hormonal acne. In each case, the use of multiple forms of light addresses the various factors that contribute to breakouts and inflammation.

How BBL Forever Clear is Performed

BBL is the world’s most powerful IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) device delivering light energy deep into your skin to stimulate and regenerate your skin cells, leaving you with clear, healthy, radiant skin.

Forever clear BBL utilizes 2 steps:

  • Blue BBL is used to help eliminate acne-causing bacteria deep down in the pores.
  • Yellow BBL is then utilized to help reducing inflammation and redness, to give you healthy, luminous skin.

For added benefit, follow your personalized plan including follow-up treatments and a skincare regimen to keep your skin lasting clear.

Recovery Expectations

Most patients can wear make-up and resume normal activities immediately following treatment. Typically a series of treatments is recommended for optimal results (i.e. 6 treatments 2 weeks apart). You will be sensitive to ultraviolet light for approximately 2 weeks after each treatment, and you must avoid direct sunlight during this time. Fully cover your skin or use a good sunscreen whenever you go outdoors.

Laser FAQs

This depends on your lifestyle. If you can avoid prolonged sun exposure then yes, you can get laser treatments in the summer. If you plan on being outside in the sun without protection (SPF & a hat) then we would recommend that you postpone your treatments until the fall or winter.

Typically no. Our registered nurse/laser technician can assess you to determine whether you are a candidate for laser. Depending on the treatment and the area being treated there are different recommendations but in general, the skin must not be tanned in order to have a laser treatment.

This depends on what type of treatment you are undergoing. BBL treatments are not painful. The halo laser will feel hot and you will experience some pain for about 45-60 minutes after the treatment but then it completely goes away and is quite tolerable. Deep resurfacing laser treatments are painful but our office provides many forms of pain relief including oral, topical and local anesthetic.

This depends on what type of laser treatment you are having. There is no downtime associated with BBL. Halo has 5-7 days downtime. Deep resurfacing has a 2 week downtime and then prolonged redness (few months) which can be covered with makeup.

Our laser is a state of the art medical grade laser called the Sciton Joule. This platform has many different lasers built into it. We have a Broad Band Light (BBL) system which is the world’s most powerful IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) device on the market. We also have a 1064nm Nd:YAG laser; the Halo laser which is a hybrid of two laser wavelengths (1470nm and 2940nm); a full resurfacing Erbium YAG laser (2940nm) and a Profractional ablative laser, which is also the 2940nm wavelength but instead of treating the entire surface of the skin it just treats a fraction of the skin – creating channels in the surface.

Many including: unwanted hair growth, spider veins and small facial vessels, rosacea, acne, pigment and wrinkles.
