Dermal fillers are extremely popular and for good reason. They are safe and effective, and the procedure to get a filler injected takes no time at all. However, as with any procedure, there are some things you need to know!
Dermal Filler “Don’ts”
Of course, the skin care professionals at your doctor’s office will be able to answer all of your questions and will give you instructions as to what you should and shouldn’t do before, during, and after your filler appointment. But here are some “don’ts” to keep in mind:
Don’t consider fillers if you are pregnant. Your doctor will discuss your overall health with you to make sure you are a good candidate for fillers. You will want to tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have a history of facial cold sores, or if you have a history of allergies.
Don’t take an over-the-counter pain reliever before your injections. About a week before your injections you should stop taking any drugs that thin the blood, such as ibuprofen and aspirin, which can increase the risk of bleeding and bruising.
Don’t use hair removal products on the treatment site. You should also avoid waxing, tweezing, and bleaching hair for at least 2 days before your appointment.
Dermal Filler “Do’s”
So what are some “do’s” when it comes to dermal fillers?
Do have an idea of what you hope to achieve. Different fillers may be used depending on what your cosmetic goals are – for instance, some fillers help to reduce wrinkles, while others add volume.
Do follow any instructions you are given. Your doctor will give you tips on how to care for yourself and your skin after the treatment, such as how long to stay out of the sun, how long to avoid strenuous activity, and how you can relieve swelling or bruising. Following instructions is important for the effectiveness of the fillers and for your recovery.
