Which Filler or Injectable Is Right for You?

attractive woman in summer dress with short hairstyle in boho vintage style If you want to do something about wrinkles, a double chin, or lips that are too thin, you may be thinking about getting an injectable or a filler – but which one should you get? There are several to choose from!

What Are the Benefits of Fillers and Injectables?

Fillers and injectables are a safe and effective way to correct imperfections. The results are long-lasting, it only takes a few minutes to have them administered, and there is little to no downtime involved. They are generally well-tolerated by patients, with only minor side-effects that resolve within a few days, such as redness, swelling, and bruising.

Here is some information on fillers and injectables available at the office of Jeffrey C. Dawes, MD, FRCSC Plastic and Dermatologic Surgery in Calgary – which one might be right for you?

  • BELKYRA™. This is also known as “KYBELLA®,” and it is used for patients who want to get rid of a double chin. The active ingredient is deoxycholic acid, and it works by targeting fat cells and then eliminating them. It is administered under the chin in a series of injections.
  • BOTOX® Cosmetic/Xeomin®. These very popular treatments are technically knowns as “neuromodulators,” not fillers, but they do involve injections. They are injected into the skin to relax wrinkles by relaxing the muscles underneath them. It only takes about 15 to 20 minutes to have a BOTOX Cosmetic or Xeomin treatment.
  • Fillers. Fillers, such as RADIESSE®, can be used for a variety of things: to correct that “hollow eye” look, to make lips fuller, to reduce lines and wrinkles, to make cheek bones more pronounced, and they can even be used to reshape the nose for a nonsurgical rhinoplasty. They typically contain hyaluronic acid, which adds volume and hydrates the skin and helps to make skin more elastic.

The staff at the office of Jeffrey C. Dawes, MD, FRCSC Plastic and Dermatologic Surgery in Calgary can discuss your filler and injectable options with you – different fillers and injectables are often combined to treat different areas of the face to help you get the look you’ve always wanted.
