Women everywhere want longer, thicker, fuller lashes, but without the hassle of eyelash extensions and continual upkeep. Latisse is a growth treatment that helps women who have inadequate or not enough eyelashes. So how does this treatment work?

Here are a few facts about this popular eyelash-growing product.

Latisse was discovered while treating glaucoma patients. The first FDA-approved treatment clinically proven to grow lashes, Latisse (aka bimatoprost) was an accidental discovery as patients using it for glaucoma medication were noticing the lash-lengthening benefits from treatment, with longer, thicker, darker lashes appearing over time.

Latisse is a once-a-day treatment. You will apply Latisse at night as part of your bedtime routine. Start with a clean face, removing makeup and contacts before applying. Place one drop of Latisse solution on a disposable sterile applicator and brush the applicator along the skin of the upper eyelid right at the base of the eyelashes. Blot away any excess solution with a tissue. Do not apply to the lower eyelashes.

Contact wearers rejoice! You can use Latisse. It’s important, however, to remove your contact lenses prior to applying Latisse. Wait 15 minutes after applying Latisse before you reinsert the contact lenses. Latisse contains benzalkonium chloride, which can be absorbed by soft contact lenses if they are in during the application of the product.

Full results take about 16 weeks, but you will notice results in about a month. Eyelash growth is a cyclical process, which means each lash may be in a different phase of growth. During the growth phase, a new lash emerges and pushes out the older lash. The amount of time spent in the growth phase determines eyelash length, thickness and darkness. Latisse will prolong the active growth phase, giving your lashes more time to grow.

Latisse works gradually with consistent daily application. Once you stop using the treatment, your lashes will return to their pre-Latisse state over the next several weeks or months.
