Halo™

Halo, the worlds first hybrid fractional laser, delivers both ablative (2940 nm) and non-ablative (1470 nm) laser wavelength energy to the same treatment area, resulting in amazing results without the discomfort or downtime of ablative lasers alone. This intelligent energy delivery, combined with Dynamic Thermal Optimization, which automatically adjusts the power of each pulse based on the temperature of the skin. The results are precise, even and safe treatments that are virtually painless.

In addition to the face, Halo is effective on other areas including the neck, chest, arms, hands and legs.

Over time, your skin can lose it’s youthful glow due to sun exposure and your body’s natural aging process. As a result, your body may develop sun spots, fine lines, and lose that natural healthy glow. Previous lasers couldn’t effectively remove this damage, because the treatment was either too shallow or too deep. Halo eliminates years of damage by precisely targeting the right depth. Halo restores the luminous glow you had when you were younger. Halo creates beautiful results without the downtime of more aggressive treatments. Typically you can expect 5-7 days downtime. Halo targets skin discolouration, sun damage, visible signs of aging, uneven skin tone, enlarged pores and poor texture. Typically one treatment is performed; however, if your sun damage is more severe your provider may recommend a series of treatments. A topical anesthetic is used during the treatment to help with discomfort. Halo also has integrated cooling technology to keep patients experience as comfortable as possible. You will need to protect your skin after treatment at all times using UV sunscreen. Each additional Halo treatment you get will only improve the results, giving you even better looking skin.

Forever Young BBL™

Forever Young BBLTM from Sciton is a revolutionary treatment that sends light energy deep into skin to boost the bodies natural ability to fight aging. Skin doesn’t just look younger – it’s genetically programmed to be younger! As we age, the genes within our cells are programmed to express themselves differently than when we were younger. Forever Young BBL reaches deep into the cell and activates certain genes associated with youth, while turning off other genes tied to aging. New skin cells are actually programmed to be younger, giving you beautiful, youthful skin. Ground-breaking research performed at Stanford University shows that BBL influences gene expression and changes skin at a molecular level. A long-term clinical study showed that patients who received regular BBL treatments (at least one a year) over the course of a decade were judged by doctors to appear 11 years younger than their actual age at the study’s end. In other words, they looked younger than when they started the study! Any area of the body can be treated with no pain and no downtime. Most patients can wear make-up and resume normal activities immediately. You may experience some redness that should resolve within a few hours. For some pigmented lesions, you will see a darkening of the treated area followed by fading and flaking of at a later stage. Your skin will feel smoother, pores will be less noticeable, and sunspots or uneven pigmentation will fade. This is also an extremely effective treatment for managing rosacea. Typically a series of treatments is recommended for optimal results. You will be sensitive to ultraviolet light for approximately 2 weeks after your treatment, and you must avoid direct sunlight during this time. Fully cover your skin or use a good sunscreen whenever you go outdoors.

Texture, Skin Tone, Wrinkles

Aging – particularly if combined with poor genetics, chronic sun-exposure or smoking, can result in significant changes to the skin. Fine lines, deeper wrinkles, enlarged pores, a rough skin texture or a dull skin tone may result. Ablative resurfacing represents the gold standard for treatment of these concerns, helping to restore smoother skin and that youthful glow.

Treatments listed are often combined with plastic surgery procedures such as facelifts or lower eyelid surgery for stunning post-operative results.

Indications:
  • Mild-severe wrinkles
  • Poor skin tone
  • Rough skin texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Dull skin tone

Halo™

For Mild-moderate Wrinkles With Concerns of Pigmentation, Redness, Pores, Tone or Texture:

Halo, the worlds first hybrid fractional laser, delivers both ablative (2940 nm) and non-ablative (1470 nm) laser wavelength energy to the same treatment area, resulting in amazing results without the discomfort or downtime of ablative lasers alone. This intelligent energy delivery, combined with Dynamic Thermal Optimization, which automatically adjusts the power of each pulse based on the temperature of the skin. In addition to the face, Halo is effective on other areas including the neck, chest, arms, hands and legs.

Contour TRL™ Ablative (2940 nm) Skin Resurfacing

For deeper, more severe wrinkles:

Sciton’s Contour Tunable Resurfacing Laser (TRL) safely removes a layer of skin with micron precision. It applies energy and heat to the skin which stimulates new collagen formation in the deeper layers of the skin, improving skin thickness and resilience. The skin’s surface will also re-grow with new, healthy cells that can improve both fine and deeper wrinkles while giving your skin a younger, more even and rejuvenated appearance.

Acne

Acne is the most common skin condition in the U.S., affecting nearly 50 million Americans. It occurs as hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. While it is considered by some as a common right of passage in adolescence, it can be both physically and emotionally challenging.

Indications:
  • Active acne

Forever Clear BBL™

Forever Clear BBL is a cutting-edge acne treatment that used the power of light to comfortably and effectively clear acne. BBL is the world’s most powerful IPL (intense pulsed light) device, which delivers light energy deep into your skin to stimulate and regenerate your skin cells, leaving you with clear, healthy and radiant skin. Forever Clear BBL is great for both teens and adults. Most areas on the body can be treated. It is a non-invasive, FDA-cleared, painless treatment that is quick with virtually no downtime. Most patients can wear make-up and resume normal activities immediately. Typically a series of treatments is recommended for optimal results (i.e. 6 treatments 2 weeks apart). You will be sensitive to ultraviolet light for approximately 2 weeks after each treatment, and you must avoid direct sunlight during this time. Fully cover your skin or use a good sunscreen whenever you go outdoors.

Forever Clear BBL™ utilizes 2 steps:

  • Blue BBL is used to help eliminate acne-causing bacteria deep down in the pores.
  • Yellow BBL is then utilized to help reducing inflammation and redness, to give you healthy, luminous skin.

Scarring

As a plastic surgeon, Dr. Dawes seeks to minimize post-operative scarring. While good technique, good skin care products, massage and time are important in the healing of a scar, they may remain as a persistent reminder of a past trauma or surgery. While you can never remove a scar, several laser options are available that can help it to blend in with the surrounding skin.

Indications:
  • New or old surgical or traumatic scar
  • Acne scarring

  • Contour TRL (2940 nm) ablative skin resurfacing
  • ProFractional™ 2940 nm – If the Contour TRL™ resurfacing laser ‘mows the lawn’, the ProFractional 2940 nm laser ‘aerates it’, precisely drilling clean, micro-channels into the skin – covering only a small portion of the treatment area to help achieve excellent results without the downtime associated with full-field laser resurfacing. Heat can be added for increased effect. Profractional has been found to be particularly useful in the treatment of post-operative scarring. Profractional treatment stimulates new collagen growth and improves skin’s tone, texture, fine lines, deeper wrinkles and the appearance of scars. Since only a fraction of the skin is treated at once, optimal results require a series of treatments.

Laser FAQs

This depends on your lifestyle. If you can avoid prolonged sun exposure then yes, you can get laser treatments in the summer. If you plan on being outside in the sun without protection (SPF & a hat) then we would recommend that you postpone your treatments until the fall or winter.

Typically no. Our registered nurse/laser technician can assess you to determine whether you are a candidate for laser. Depending on the treatment and the area being treated there are different recommendations but in general, the skin must not be tanned in order to have a laser treatment.

This depends on what type of treatment you are undergoing. BBL treatments are not painful.  The halo laser will feel hot and you will experience some pain for about 45-60 minutes after the treatment but then it completely goes away and is quite tolerable. Deep resurfacing laser treatments are painful but our office provides many forms of pain relief including oral, topical and local anesthetic.

This depends on what type of laser treatment you are having. There is no downtime associated with BBL. Halo has 5-7 days downtime. Deep resurfacing has a 2 week downtime and then prolonged redness (few months) which can be covered with makeup.

Our laser is a state of the art medical grade laser called the Sciton Joule. This platform has many different lasers built into it. We have a Broad Band Light (BBL) system which is the world’s most powerful IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) device on the market. We also have a 1064nm Nd:YAG laser; the Halo laser which is a hybrid of two laser wavelengths (1470nm and 2940nm); a full resurfacing Erbium YAG laser (2940nm) and a Profractional ablative laser, which is also the 2940nm wavelength but instead of treating the entire surface of the skin it just treats a fraction of the skin – creating channels in the surface.

Many including: unwanted hair growth, spider veins and small facial vessels, rosacea, acne, pigment and wrinkles.
