Nose surgery (rhinoplasty) is a surgical procedure that modifies the bone and/or cartilage of the nose. Dr. Dawes can perform nose surgery to help improve the appearance and proportion of your nose, as well as correct breathing problems associated with structural nasal abnormalities.
For patients seeking aesthetic changes due to heredity or injury, improved facial harmony can help increase confidence and affect a more positive outlook. The following characteristics of your nose can be altered for an enhanced appearance:
As with other cosmetic procedures, nose surgery is a personal decision. It should be done only to help you feel positive about your appearance rather than to fit a particular image or ideal.
Dr. Dawes will perform nose surgery (rhinoplasty) using either an open or closed procedure. In an open procedure, an incision is made across the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils. In a closed procedure, the incisions are hidden inside of the nose. Through the incisions, Dr. Dawes separates the skin from the underlying bone or cartilage and mucous membranes. The nasal bone or cartilage is then cut, trimmed or augmented with cartilage from deeper inside your nose or from your ear.
Recovery is about one to four weeks. It may take several months for swelling and healing tissue to resolve before your final nose shape is fully apparent—often up to a year or longer. Nose surgery results are usually permanent, though cartilage and tissue may continue to heal and reshape, affecting the outcome of your results over time.
