A thigh lift (thighplasty) tightens the skin of the thigh, reduces sagging in the inner or outer thigh, and makes the thighs look more proportionate to the buttocks, abs and legs. Fitness and weight loss may help strengthen and tone this area, but may not affect the saggy, flabby and/or dimply skin, lost elasticity, weakened tissue or localized fat deposits. This procedure will help attain firmer, more youthful looking thighs.
As with other cosmetic procedures, thigh lift surgery is a personal decision. It should be done only to help you feel positive about your appearance rather than to fit a particular image or ideal.
How thigh lift surgery is performed
For an inner thigh lift, Dr. Dawes makes an incision in the groin fold, and lifts up and tightens the skin and tissue. Patients who have more fat and loose skin may require a vertical thighplasty. This procedure involves making a vertical incision that starts at the groin crease and extends to the inner knee. An outer thigh lift involves making an incision that extends from the groin and around the hip.
Recovery takes about two weeks. Final results may take several months as swelling dissipates and tissue heals; some visible scars will remain. While still subject to the aging process, the results of thigh lift surgery can be long lasting, assuming that a stable weight and general fitness are maintained.
