You may notice hollowness or contour irregularities in facial features or other areas of the body, which can be attributed to aging, birth defects, genetics, trauma, previous surgeries or disease. Structural fat transfer is a minimally-invasive procedure that uses the patient’s own soft fat tissue to augment or enhance certain features and contours. This procedure can be used on any area of the body where added volume could help improve or restore appearance, such as the forehead, eyes, cheeks, nose, lips, chin, jaw-line, and sternum
As with other cosmetic procedures, utilizing fat transfer is a personal decision. It should be done only to help you feel positive about your appearance rather than to fit a particular image or ideal.
How fat transfer is performed
Dr. Dawes carefully harvests fat from the specified donor area, often the abdomen, hips or thighs, then prepares it for transfer. Fat cells are then injected, filling the area with an over-abundance, as some of the fat will be reabsorbed back into the body as healing occurs.
Recovery takes about one to two days; the donor site may be temporarily painful or irritated. Final results will be permanent, but may take up to three months to fully resolve. Two or three treatments are often required to achieve optimal results.
